"Happiness is a mysterious thing. We all want it, we all crave it, and still, we can’t always have it no matter what we do. Although advertisements try to convince us that if we take the right pill we can be happy all the time, that’s simply not true. Because life isn’t always happy. This sounds harsh, but it’s the truth. Happiness doesn’t naturally spring up from beneath our feet each day. And that’s because life isn’t perfect. In fact, it can be downright cruel and unreasonable at times. And that’s okay, because no matter what life throws at us, we have free will and we can use it all to our advantage.
Stuff happens. Every second many are born and many die. Life is filled with tension, disappointment, trauma, illness, and struggle as well as pleasure, excitement, satisfaction, beauty, and simplicity. Life is a “wiggly” experience. It moves this way and then it moves that way, often at the same time as happiness is regularly tinged by difficulty. Life is bittersweet.
How do you wiggle? How do you deal with the roller-coaster ride of life? How do you deal with hardships? Do you go with the flow or do you fight the tide?
When things go wrong, do you play the victim and engage in pity parties that don’t serve you? I’m a big proponent of allowing myself the space and opportunity to acknowledge as well as feel what’s happening, perhaps gripe about it a bit, comfort myself to the best of my ability with healthy strategies then move on. Wallowing is nothing but a stew that gets thicker with time. Or do you realize that you have the power to control your expectations, your reactions, your choices, and yourself?”

Happiness: if you're seeking more of it, this is the book for you!

What I really enjoyed best about this book was how it gave an opportunity for me to be mindful of what's really going on in my life--what I do have to be genuinely happy about, what I'm holding onto that is long overdue to be released, and also how fortunate I am to overall have a life-view that believes the glass is half full. The quizzes, in particular, really got me into the right mindset and there was something of value in every chapter.
And better yet...
The content is shared in a manner that is enjoyable and really lays out the message in each of the eight keys. I'm really glad that I devoted the time to this book. Also, I can definitely see why Lisa Cypers Kamen is a guru at Harvesting Happiness. In addition, her work and commitment to helping others (especially veterans) is truly inspiring.

A Step-by-Step Road Map for a Happier Life from a Former Depressed Person!

What a GREAT guidebook for creating a happier life. I wish I would have known the "how-to's" of happiness when I was younger. This book proves it's never too late to start. A recommended read for anyone searching for a little happiness especially after having a hard go at it.

Meaty and Valuable

This book clearly and with flourish unlocked eight keys that if practiced would really lead to a more joyful life. Sharing some of these insights with my kids at the dinner table does induce some teen eyerolling - however I do notice that in the coming days - both my kids as well as my dad and myself do seem to be making strides towards a happier existence. Which, as a single parent of teen boys caring for my 80 something dad can pose quite a challenge. I would recommend this book to anyone looking to make big or small changes in your life that show results.
