shop book

nice book, could stand for more detail but some nice jigs that I hav'nt seen before. I like it made a couple pretty easy not bad better than most.

One of the better jig books

I am finding this to be one of the better jig books I own. When thinking about building a jig such as a band saw circle cutting jig or a cross-cut box for a table saw, I've looked around the internet, but have always come back to build the jigs in this book simply because they offer more versatility and features.

This book is written by the editors of Woodsmith and ShopNotes Magazines, and is very well written and very clearly drawn. Not all machine tools are built the same and there are notes in the plans of the dimensions you will need to change based on your machine. This book is very inexpensively priced on the used book market, and is well worth the money if your budget is tight.

Well written and Illustrated book

Book was like new - spiral bound and was delivered on time. Most of the jigs are a bit complex and would be expensive to build if the recommendations of the book are followed; however, all of the jigs are very useful if one spends a great deal of time in their woodworking shop. The author introduces the jig, then goes into great detail of how to build it listing the materials required the spends time explaining how to use the jig to get the most use from it.

Cynthia R. Green, Ph.D., is an assistant clinical professor of psychiatry and the founding director of the Memory Enhancement Program at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. She is the president of Memory Arts, LLC, and the author of Total Memory Workout. Joan Beloff, ACC, ALA, is the director of Community Outreach and of the award-winning New Vitality program at Chilton Memorial Hospital.

Sad but true

As your loved one becomes more disease than the person you fell in love with, it's harder and harder to find things to talk about that will not upset him or find things he can comprehend enough to talk about. This book is simple-actually I was expecting it to be a bit more-but has some nice suggestions. Every time I visit him he finds it harder to communicate. I hope this will give us something to do together.
If you have someone with Alzheimer's or Dementia, this book could be nice to have.

Not what I expected.

This book is described as a "workbook," which made me think that it had question/answer content with places to personalize with one's own answers. I was hoping that it could prompt recollections that could be written in the book, and then the book could be referenced back as my Mom's Alzheimer's progresses. Unfortunately, it's more like a very beautiful coffee table book with descriptive text. The questions in it were well above where my Mom's abilities are currently and fairly abstract. I wish I'd been given either a quote out of the book or a photo of a text page in the Item Description, so that I could have matched it better with my Mom's level, especially since each person experiences Alzheimer's differently.

Not for Independent Reading but a Nice Activity Book

This is a good book, it just wasn't what I was looking for. First, it has in big text "For memory impaired' on the cover, so that ruled out giving it to my grandmother. Also, inside is tons of text. It's my fault for not reading the description I guess, but this is not for independent reading. This is for if you want to hold the book yourself and read it to someone. One side is a big pic and the other is a list of 'things you can talk to the person about' regarding the pic. If you're looking for an activity that you can do with an older person, this would be for that.

And that is certainly the case with this gorgeous book, which perfectly matches complete, precisely written directions with correspondingly crisp, helpful photographs. Brown is an Austin, Texas–based upholstery shop owner whose expertise simply leaps off every page. Her guiding philosophy is that “upholstered furniture is the root of an interior,” and to that end, she addresses nonprofessionals who are learning to upholster their own furniture, taking them through six projects that can be categorized as advanced but for which all necessary skills are taught along the way. These projects include a pair of slipper chairs, an ottoman, and a sofa. Specific activities required for completing the projects include padding and constructing boxed arms, attaching webbing and burlap to the arms, attaching the dust cover to the bottom of the sofa, and cutting out fabric for the cushions. I've looked at quite a few upholstery books since I don't have any places nearby that teach upholstery. This one by far is my favorite. Reasons I prefer this book above the rest:

The author covers enough different styles of furniture so that you can tackle anything - and shows you how to determine which instructions would be best in her book for different pieces of furniture.

The upholstery lingo isn't over my head. This is a book that will help the beginner, intermediate and advanced. I feel like I don't need to look anywhere else to learn how to reupholster. She is truly an expert, but remembers how it was to be a beginner.

Many upholstery books I look at seem very dated. They use techniques that aren't current - from what I've seen on blogs and youtube videos. The author combines more modern techniques (using foam and pneumatic stapler) with techniques that will help your piece of furniture stand the test of time.

Her style is lovely. Very inspirational. Combines traditional, vintage with a modern flair.

Great pictures and instructions. High quality book (even has a few book marks built in).

If you're considering buying any upholstery book...you don't need to look any further. The only reason you wouldn't need to buy this book is if you lived in Austin, TX and could take a class from her personally.

Well written, well photographed, well indexed, and well bound (I was especially pleased with the three bookmark ribbons).
This may be the upholstery book you are looking for. I'd be hard-pressed to find a flaw with it.
If I lost it, I'd buy it again, I'd even pay more.

Really tells you all you need to know ...

This is an amazing book: it is comprehensive, yet to the point. Since I had taken apart my antique dining chairs I could see how they had been made. But the stuffing was burlap, straw, felt, cotton, so I had to adapt with modern material for the seats and backs. I was kinda stumped with adapting to foam: 1" for the backs and 2" for the seats. But I found the answer: "burlap pulls:" the secret to attaching square foam backs/seats to an open square hole and achieving a rounded-off finished edge. Hooray! I am not a seamstress, have never sewed anything except an apron in Home Ec course in the 50's. Amanda's level of detail is perfect: just enough to help you figure it out with the specifics of your project. Highly recommended.

Since the late 1970s, the Berlin-based contemporary artist Isa Genzken (b. 1948) has produced a body of work that is remarkable for its formal and material inventiveness. Genzken, the recent subject of a major retrospective at MoMA, offers a highly original interpretation of modernist, avant-garde, and postminimalist practices even as she engages pressing sociopolitics and economic issues of the present.

These illustrated essays address the full span of Genzken's work, from the elegant floor sculptures with which she began her career to the assemblages, bursting with color and bristling with bric-a-brac, that she has produced since the beginning of the millennium. The texts, by writers including Yve-Alain Bois, Benjamin H. D. Buchloh, and the artist herself, consider her formation in the West German milieu; her critique of conventions of architecture, reconstruction, and memorialization; her sympathy with mass culture; and her ongoing interrogation of public and private spheres.
